Syracuse Football: Fred Reed Joins Scott Shafer's Staff

The Ohio DB coach has joined Scott Shafer's staff at Syracuse where he will almost certainly take the same role.

Defensive back is one position that Scott Shafer need a coach for on his Syracuse Orange football staff.

Fred Reed was the Ohio Bobcats defensive backs coach and is now apparently working for SU.

Let's put two and two together, shall we?

Prior to working at Ohio, Reed earned more than a decade of coaching experience at both the collegiate and professional level. He worked at the University at Buffalo in 2008 and 2009, serving as the team's defensive coordinator in his final season. And before that he spent two years working as a defensive assistant safeties coach with the Detroit Lions.

Reed's two seasons with Ohio ensures that he meets the MAC requirement of all incoming SU football coaches.

Reed also has history as a special teams coach, which is something Syracuse needs (sorely). However, given that Darius Kelly was told a couple days ago by Shafer that an announcement about the DB coach was coming in the next few days, well, you can at least lock him into that.
